LO4: Ipso Codes of Practise

When gaining quotes and information from primary definers such as Phil Dove I ensured that I didn't break the code of Accuracy, by mis-quoting what he said and making him out to say mis-leading/false information which may compromise him in the public eye. I also ensured that details such as dates of openings are accurate in order not to mis-inform readers. For example:

" "All the seats are recliners, we designed the seats ourselves and they are really quite special places to see you movie." Says Phil Dove when being interviewed by Sheffield Live. "

Here I quoted Phil Dove's words exactly as he said them on the secondary source I used for the article, if you check the source you will see that I have copied what he said word for word in order to maintain accuracy.

When gaining quotes and information for the article from primary definers I also had to ensure that I did not break the Harassment code specified in the code of contact, since Keith Pullinger did not reply to my email, I didn't persistently email him demanding that he could give me the information that I need.

" "We felt that Sheffield City Centre didn't really have any great cinemas, and we were really excited about the whole regeneration of the city centre and really wanted to be part of this development." "

In this quote, when I wanted to find out from Keith Pullinger what how he intended The Light Cinema to effect the community, I wasn't able to find out the information from primary sources unless I broke the Harassment Code, therefore I was able to find out the same information through secondary sources, which had an interview with Phil Dove, who spoke about the reasons he decided to build the cinema in Sheffield Centre and how he hoped it would effect the community.

Also when gathering information through secondary definers, if people refused to fill in my questionnaire, I didn't insist that they fill it in in order not to break the Harassment code, because if I did and included the gathered information used from non compliant definers, I would be breaking the Harassment code.

"From a survey we completed many believed that The Light made the Moor look better..."

I found out this information from primary sources from secondary definers, however if I used information from non compliant individuals answers, I would be breaking the code of Harassment, which is why the information I used was only from compliant responses to my questionnaire.

When gaining information from secondary definers about the cinema experience, I made sure that my questionnaire didn't include questions which could be invading a persons Privacy, for example asked no questions which required sensitive data, for example sexuality, religion, ethnicity, social background.

"Customer praised the cinema for the staff's friendliness and the cinema;s large reclining seats."

Here I used this information from a certain survey, which said that one of the great things The Light offers are the huge reclining seats, this was because in my survey I only asked questions which were about the customers experience when visiting The Light Cinema, I didn't included questions which were personal, in order to avoid invading the peoples privacy.

I also ensured that as a part of my studies I didn't interview any Children, in order not to break the Children code in the code of practise.

When discussing how The Light Cinema would effect the community at the Moor I also made sure not to include information that would be bought from primary definers, since using bought information would be breaking the Financial Journalism code of practise.
